Exposed nails on a roof are problematic because they can lead to water leaks and potential structural damage as they rust and create holes in the shingles, allowing water to penetrate the roof and cause damage to the interior of your home; essentially, any visible nail head on a roof is a potential entry point for water, especially when they start to rust over time.
