Should you open your windows?

Leaving windows open does not directly allow mold spores in, but rather provides a pathway for mold spores already present in the environment to enter your house and, more importantly, introduces moisture from humid outdoor air that can help these spores grow into colonies on indoor surfaces. Mold spores are microscopic and constantly present, but they need moisture to thrive, so opening a window when the outside air is damp can increase indoor humidity, creating ideal conditions for mold to develop and spread.
