What you’re looking at isn’t a repair—it’s an illusion. During a recent home inspection in Bentonville, I caught this classic example of cosmetic staging over actual home maintenance. At first glance, this downspout looks perfectly attached and functional. But when you get up close? It’s literally just leaning against the siding, completely disconnected from the gutter system.

Proper water diversion is critical for building science and moisture management. When a downspout fails to channel water away from the structure, you are rolling the dice on foundation erosion, siding damage, and costly basement or crawlspace moisture issues. This is exactly why a trained eye and a comprehensive home inspection matter. Don’t fall for quick cosmetic fixes when buying a home—make sure your investment is truly protected from the ground up!
