Roof Pitch

Writer: Cid HerleinCid Herlein

Shingles are not water proof, they repell water which means they cannot have water sitting or pooling on the roof covering. This can allow water under the shingles.

Because of this, the shingle manufacturer's installation instructions state you can't install asphalt shingles on a roof with a pitch below 2:12. Three tab shingles state the roof must be at a 3/12 pitch.
